Who We Are
Terry Collier & Associates, P.C. is a minority-owned accounting firm based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and fully licensed by the Commonwealth. The firm began as a sole proprietorship in 1989 and was incorporated in 1997. Currently, the firm has seven staff persons (two of whom are CPAs). All professional staff hold baccalaureate degrees in addition to two master's degrees and one doctorate. The staff has over 100 years of cumulative experience in accounting, audit, tax, and business consulting, primarily in the small business and non-profit sectors. Three members of our staff specialize in our tax compliance practice and four members specialize in attest services. Our team of highly experienced professionals shares the firm's core values - "HIRED" (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Enthusiasm and Diversity.)
As a firm, we are committed to making Pittsburgh's nonprofit organizations and business community that serve this hardworking, safe, affordable, friendly and strategically located region successful through excellence in accounting. We do this by helping our clients develop sound, thoughtful accounting systems and procedures. We coach our clients to be consistent in the application of their procedures, so that timely, accurate, and transparent financial statements are provided to their stakeholders and tax returns are proved to the appropriate taxing authorities.
Our vision for inclusion and collaboration provides a portal for men and women of all ages, ethnic groups, and nationalities entrance into the accounting profession. Our CPA alumnae have graduated to the "Big Four", controllers, bankers, executive directors, chief financial officers, clergy, and even the Assistant Auditor General of Liberia. We believe that as we encourage inclusion in the American Dream, opportunities are created where different perspectives can provide a rich, creative environment, which enhances personal achievements and enriches our clients as well as our firm.
The firm currently provides services to nearly eighty small and medium sized non-profit organizations in Southwestern Pennsylvania including social service, educational, health care, artistic, housing, community development, recreational, fraternal, faith-based, and other community service organizations. Our goal is to help our clients orient their financial reporting systems to their goals, purposes, and functions while helping them develop reporting systems and procedures that support their compliance and performance auditing requirements.
The firm also provides support to about fifty small businesses. This includes people in business to serve the public including many types licensed professionals, craftsmen, and other service providers.
At Terry Collier & Associates, P.C., we believe that our task goes far beyond providing accounting services. We support non-profit organizations in development and maintenance of cost-effective techniques for collection, summarization, and reporting of financial data that meet both organizational and stakeholder needs. Our auditing policy and procedures support this approach. We take seriously our responsibility to provide client feedback with an emphasis on client communication. We are attentive to the image that accounting policy and procedures present of our clients to their stakeholders, funders, regulatory bodies, and others through clear articulation of financial information and financial statements. Our purpose at Terry Collier & Associates, P.C. is to work with people and organizations to "help them achieve success through excellence."
We are fully experienced in FAS no. 117 and OMB Circular A-133, as amended, financial, and compliance audits in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America under FASB and generally accepted government auditing standards under GASB. The required technical knowledge and experience in the accounting principles and financial reporting practices are evidenced by our successful 2009 peer review. This, our sixth triennial peer review process required a careful review and update of our quality control and procedures manual. In addition, an independent CPA firm specializing in such services sampled our 2009 audit engagements, including financial, Single, and HUD audits. The assurance documentation procedures for each engagement were examined assuring that we had performed the engagements in accordance with our policy and procedures manual; with proper application of audit procedures and principals; and with appropriate reporting and disclosure documentation.
